Purpose. The train depot currently resting along the side of the tracks on the Mathiesen Grain Mill property (between 16th and 17th Streets, north of the tracks) will be moved or destroyed in the near term.  The owners are sensitive to the historic character of the structure and are encouraging friends of the depot to find a buyer so that the depot may live on.

Objective. Find a group or individual who is ready, willing and able to formally commit, prior to the Ides of March (4/15), to the physical removal of the depot from its current location, and remove the structure on or before April 1, 2007.

  1. Visit with Tom Kranda regarding preservation of a very old train depot still standing in Blair and the identity of the depot in a photo once thought to be that of the depot at DeSoto. With regard to the Alliance, there is a very good overview of this organization and of the history and photos of Blair on the website blairhistory.com. As to the old train depot in the picture once thought to be that located in DeSoto, it is clear after this trip that the depot in the photo is actually that of the Blair depot from 1880 to 1910. This was confirmed after comparing the structure in the photo with the one that exists today, on visits with Tom Kranda, and after consulting with Ron Hineline, who has the original.
