C. C. Crowell House

This house is one of two in Blair listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.
The Crowell House was built in 1901 by Christopher Columbus Crowell, Jr. and is transitional in style, exhibiting both Queen Anne and Neo-Classical Revival details.

Once owned by the Son of Rev. Hans Peter Bertelsen.

Owned and refurbished by Jane Hansen Gilbert and Brent Gilbert
Owned by Dana College as the official home of the College President -- Dr, Myrvin & Mrs. Anne Christopherson until 2005.

The A.M. Andersen House

A.M. Andersen, a Danish Lutheran ministry, was the founder and first president of Trinity Seminary, the precursor to Dana College. The early seminary classes were held in this house in 1894 before Old Main on Dana hill was constructed in 1896.    [more information on Andersen roll in Trinity Seminary.]

H. Skov Nielsen & his wife Anine K. purchased the property which included lots 2,3 & 4 in 1920.  The prairie or craftsman style house was built in or about 1922. It originally had a screened porch across the front and small deck /porch on the upper level.  Hafl of lot 3 and lot 4 were sold in 1947.  Dean Brochhoff purchased the home in the late 1960's.  Abariotes purchased the home in November 1971 and have been remodeling it since then.

This house was known as the old Sorensen Home.   Current Owners have been in the house since June 1989.  Purchased the house of Naomi Sorensen.  At that time, the area around Cauble Creek was filed with Apple orchards and berries.

The Hedlund House

House was built in Kennard in the early 1900s and moved in to Blair in the early 1930 by George Hedlund in the 1930's when he moved his bank here.  Previous owners:  George Hedlund, Ray & Mary Weckmuller (1964-1967)

1878 Map of Blair shows a house on this lot (block 74) owned by E. HEINZERLING.
From Andreas 1882 History, Heinzerling bio reads -- working in saddles and harness, was a native of Prussia. At the age of fourteen he commenced to learn this trade, which he has since followed. In 1866 he came to New York, and worked there till 1869, when he came to Omaha. In the spring of 1869 he removed to Blair, and at once commenced this business. Married in 1868 to Anna Loechel, of Prussia. They have four children--Edward, aged thirteen years; Frank, aged eleven years; Louis, aged nine years, and Rudolph, aged seven years. Is a member of the I. O. O. F.

Former Home of D.Z. Mummert, Sr.  family. 
Purchased by the Gentzlers in 1969
Built 1895.
D.Z.Mummert came to Blair in 1888. He passed the bar in 1890 and helped to organize the Citizens State Bank in 1904, which operated until 1933.  In a newspaper article he was referred to as Judge.  (D.Z. Mummert, Jr. was on the Blair City Council 1933 to 1935)

Built in about 1904, this house was once part of a dairy and included the house that know seats as 599 16th Street.

House was built from lumber from  a livery barn that was located where Central School is located now.  It has rough cut 6" studs, some show horse manure on them in the attic.  Magnus Johnson built the house.  Current owners bought the house in 1971.  In 1981, the house was raised and a full basement was added and in side remodeled.

Built prior to 1890 at which time it was listed as the residence of Rev. G.W. Wainwright, D.D.  It is reported that that house was built by the owner of a lumber yard in Blair.

1902 - 1909: Mayor and prominent attorney Clark O’Hanlon and his family lived here and totally renovated and remodeled the home in 1904; two children (Carlysle and Maude) died from scarlet fever while they lived in the home
1922 - 1965: Judge A.C. Debel and his wife Mary Christensen Debel lived in the home for 43 years with numerous renters (they had no children); in 1918 she was the County Clerk and he was County Judge from 1921-1924; they both graduated from Dana College
Bob and Malinda Jepsen bought the home in 1982 and have been renovating it ever since.
According to Old House Journal, the house is classified a "Free Classic Queen Anne".

This house was built about 1903. Once known as the J.A. McKeen House. Also, Clyde Allen owned it before the 1940's.  The current owner bought the house from Mrs. Allen in 1963.

The Thornberg House

Previous owners were: Mr. & Mrs. Carroll Thornberg (1943-1983), Mr. & Mrs.Robert Bierbower (1983-1986), Mr. & Mrs. Bruce Stricklett (1996-1988).  Carroll Thornberg, first owner who built the house was a local retail merchant.  He had an appliance and paint store on the south side of main street.

Louie  Nappolini
1834 Grant St.
William H. Palmer bought the lot from Thomas M. Carter in 1876, and built a house shortly thereafter.  It is not clear is the house the currently dates back to that time, but there is evidence of a structure on the lot on the 1878 plat map. The current house would have been built shortly that while it was owned by Palmer.
The house was also owned by John A. Carrigan (1925), Frank & Leate Lutz (1947), Rufus Buffaloe (1961), and Nappolinis (1977).  The was was raised and a new basement was installed in recent years.

The Eller House

Built in 1900 as the I.E. Eller residence.  Eller was a local judge.
Later owned by the Stricklet family and George and Marion Grube.

Built in 1911 by Dr. E.R. Stewart.  He also designed the home, along with several others in Blair.  The home as been in the Stewart family to date. His daughter Ethel & sons, Don & Kenny lived in it until 1968.  His grandson Jon H. Stewart and wife Jeanie moved their family in and Jeanie is still the owner.

Previous owners:  Ralph Steyer family.  Steyer was a known arborist in Blair and the park across the street is named after him.  House was also owned by Bob & Vicki Dunkle until 2003 when the current owners purchased it.

The house was in the Robert McMillian family for 50+ years.  It's been owned by the current owners for the past 12 years.
