Notes on Young's Cafe
The building was leased by John Winfield Young, Sr. and
wife Florence Josephine (Wilson) Young in 1945. They
converted it into Young's Cafe and ran it until 1956. It was wonderful
home-cooked meals with very reasonable prices.

restaurant for several years. When she sold it she became the dietitian at Dana

Dave Mummert purchased the restaurant and ran it until it was purchased by
Kenneth Jensen. (The Mummert House is located at 1517 South Street. Now

Kenny Jensen established The Blair Clothing Store, a men's clothing store.
Kenny's daughter, Betty Peare ran the store for a time as did her son Joe Peare.
The building was purchased from the Oddfellows by the Jensen family sometime

The building was leased by the Safeway Store in the 1930's and early 1940's.

Shirley (Young) Gutschow is the daughter of John
W. & Florence Young.
John Young is the son of John W. & Florence Young. Wife is Peggy Young.
Terri (Young) & Scott Lashier are the current owners of the building.
Terri (Young) Lashier is the daughter of John & Peggy Young.
The
Youngs came to Blair in 1938
Cafe started with 2 booths and 5 stools.
First Started in Klopps building
.10 cent malts
Robinsons 1952-1953
Hours were 5 am - 11 p.m. 7 days a week
Blue Room was for parties and bridge clubs
Gaby Haze was frequent and well remembered customer

Darrel Miller's father was fry cook.
The cafe was named Colonial Corner between 1969-1971 then moved.
The building also housed Ed Mathisen's Clothing,
formerly Pounds Clothing ??
After the Blair Clothing Store, it Building was purchased by
Donna Jones Account & Management Services, Inc. Jones attempted to put a
retail shop upstairs but failed because of the strict occupancy ordinances and
fire code.
